The method
The Eguchi method, from Japan
Some children grow up hearing music the way the rest of us hear words. That ability — knowing a note the moment it sounds — is called absolute pitch, and research suggests it can be trained in early childhood, roughly between ages 2 and 6.
Tonmi follows the Eguchi method, where thousands of children have learned to name chords this way: one color at a time, a few short sessions a day, over months of gentle repetition. In a published longitudinal study of the method, every child who completed the training developed absolute pitch.
